Title: Graduate Assistant

Job Description:

The Office of Preparedness and Response (OPR) is seeking a creator/builder who has experience working with immersive technologies and social media platforms, and has a passion for user experience (UI, UX), the metaverse, and emergency preparedness and risk resilience. The GA will help coordinate various administrative functions of the OPR, from campus safety and violence prevention to emergency preparedness and response.

Duties:

  • Assists with the day-to-day operations within OPR; prepares documents and reports; assists with research assignments and special projects.
  • Assists with the development of education and outreach materials relating to University Resiliency and Campus Readiness.
  • Assists with the review and updates of plans and documents as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), and the Illinois Campus Security Enhancement Act. (i.e., the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, Emergency Operations Plan, and Violence Prevention Plan).
  • Provides daily moderation of all UIC Ready social media platforms including, but not limited to, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Proposes and provides a unique perspective on new content ideas to increase engagement across social channels, tracking social media metrics and analytics.
  • Assesses research opportunities for potential pilot programs and partnerships in the evolving area of Web3, NFTs, GameFi, and blockchain technology, with a specific focus on applicability to Emergency Preparedness and Public Safety.
  • Explores Discord as a medium of engagement.
  • Assists with building a learning management system for an emergency preparedness training center.
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:                 

  • Enrolled in a UIC graduate program, candidate must be a full-time, degree-seeking student.
  • Interest is advancing the fields of violence prevention, community resilience, and public safety.
  • Excellent communication skills and creative judgment to bolster the UIC Ready brand and increase brand recognition using strategies to identify and leverage current trends for customer acquisition and engagement.
  • Attune to the pulse of pop and internet culture, and a passion for quickly identifying and acting upon trends.
  • Strong technical and quantitative aptitude.
  • Experience in content creation for the following platforms: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Discord, and TikTok.
  • Familiarity with web and mobile standards, including responsive design and usability.
  • Ability to be calm and poised under pressure and remain focused when working under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in ambiguity and through changing requirements and priorities with a positive attitude.

This is a 25 to 50%-time position. Provided performance expectations are met, the position may be renewed in the Fall semester.
