Internship Opportunity

The UIC Ready Internship Program provides bright, motivated, and civic-minded undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to apply their coursework to the critical emergency management and public safety issues facing the public and private sectors. Interns will work hand-in-hand with Office of Preparedness and Response staff, UIC and local first responders, support agencies, and stakeholders to develop plans, deliver recommendations, and implement programs that will help the university and its students, faculty and staff become more resilient.

 

We offer unpaid internships and volunteer opportunities (cape not included) that provide:

  • Hands-on Experience: Work directly with disaster junkies in real-world situations, not just textbooks!
  • Career Development: Get experience points in crisis response, public safety, emergency management, and behavioral threat assessment.
  • Make Epic Connections: Network with pros who can help you slay your future career.
  • Mentorship: Receive guidance from our seasoned experts—think of them as your Yoda, but with fewer cryptic riddles and more practical tips.
  • Be the Hero: Contribute to projects that make our campus safer and more resilient, one brilliant idea at a time!

Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It:

  • Participate in research and data analysis for crisis response and prevention programs.
  • Help develop educational materials and outreach programs for emergency preparedness.
  • Be our social media influencer! Spread the word on the UIC SAFE app and campus safety with your creative genius.
  • Help us map out emergency plans that are as foolproof as your Netflix watchlist!

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Students majoring in Criminal Justice, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related fields.
  • Individuals passionate about making a positive impact on emergency response, campus safety and community resilience.
  • Plan to work 4-8 hours per week.
