Extreme Heat

Introduction

Faculty or staff with a medical condition who may be impacted by extreme temperatures should contact the University Health Service at (312) 996-7420.

Extreme Heat

If there is a warning on Extreme Heat follow the next recommendations: Find air conditioning, if possible. Avoid strenuous activities. Watch for heat illness. Wear light clothing. Check on family members and neighbors. Drink plenty of fluids. Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

 

Heat Alerts, know the difference

A minor alert is for a Heat Outlook that presents an Excessive heat event in 3 to 7 days. A Heat Watches is for an Excessive heat event in 12 to 48 hours. A major Heat Warning/Advisory is when it presents an Excessive heat event in next 36 hours.
